Mixed integer formulations for the probabilistic minimum energy broadcast problem in wireless networks

چکیده
In this paper we study a new variant of the Minimum Energy Broadcast (MEB) problem, namely the Probabilistic MEB (PMEB). The objective of the classic MEB problem is to assign transmission powers to the nodes of a wireless network is such a way that the total energy dissipated on the network is minimized, while a connected broadcasting structure is guaranteed by the assigned transmission powers. In the new variant of the problem treated in this paper, node failure is taken into account, aiming at providing solutions with a chosen reliability level for the broadcasting structure. Three mixed integer linear programming formulations for the new problem are presented, together with efficient formulation-dependent methods for their solution. Computational results are proposed and discussed. One method emerges as the most promising one under realistic settings. It is able to handle problems with up to fifty nodes.

Due to wireless nature and hostile environment, providing of security is a critical and vital task in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). It is known that key management is an integral part of a secure network. Unfortunately, in most of the previous methods, security is compromised in favor of reducing energy consumption. Consequently, they lack perfect resilience and are not fit for applications ...
متن کاملMinimum Power Broadcast Trees for Wireless Networks: Integer Programming Formulations
Wireless multicast/broadcast sessions, unlike wired networks, inherently reaches several nodes with a single transmission. For omnidirectional wireless broadcast to a node, all nodes closer will also be reached. Heuristic algorithms for constructing the minimum power tree in wireless networks have been proposed by Wieselthier et al. and Stojmenovic et al. Recently, an evolutionary search proced...
متن کاملA Fast Mixed Integer Programming Formulation for Minimum-Power Broadcasting in Wireless Networks
Broadcasting means the distribution of packets from a certain source to all other hosts. One of the possible efficient implementations of broadcasting is to construct a spanning tree rooted at a given source such that each host can receive a copy of the broadcast packet originating from the source. Since the operations of most hosts in wireless networks mainly rely on battery power, in this pap...
متن کاملBroadcast Routing in Wireless Ad-Hoc Networks: A Particle Swarm optimization Approach
While routing in multi-hop packet radio networks (static Ad-hoc wireless networks), it is crucial to minimize power consumption since nodes are powered by batteries of limited capacity and it is expensive to recharge the device. This paper studies the problem of broadcast routing in radio networks. Given a network with an identified source node, any broadcast routing is considered as a directed...

Multicast sessions in wireless ad hoc networks require messages to be routed from a source node to a set of recipient nodes. Message forwarding from any intermediate node in the route is a power-consuming operation, and since batteries are the only available energy source, this resource is scarce. In this paper we present and analyze integer programming models for routing multicast or broadcast...
